Mission (scientific project):
the Geochemistry group at ISTerre, through the ANR-funded project “Dynamic characterization and modeling of coupled structural - chemical - and transport processes: a multiscale approach”, is interested in understanding the control that nanoconfinement exerts on the thermodynamics and kinetics of mineral precipitation processes, and in turn, how these affect macroscopic transport properties.
To achieve these goals, synchrotron-based X-ray and neutron scattering techniques, and advanced electron microscopy and tomography experiments will be employed. These will be coupled to wet chemistry column experiments to gain an overall understanding of precipitation kinetics, mineralogy of secondary authigenic phases, and cation adsorption processes in nanoconfined environments.
Required Profile:
We are seeking an outstanding and motivated candidate with a Masters degree in a relevant chemistry, materials science or geosciences discipline. A strong command of the English language (both written and spoken) is necessary. Mission (scientific project):
The aim of the project FIMO is at first to elaborate hierarchically ordered mesoporous inorganic fluorides by the modified hard-templating method and then, to demonstrate their high potential in heterogeneous catalysis of fluorination reactions of chlorinated organic substrates. This work is related to recent results which proved that it is possible to prepare hierarchically ordered macroporous MgF2 with pore diameters close to 400 nm.
Required Profile:
Doctor (PhD) in the fields of materials and solid state chemistry with maximum 3 years of experience after thesis defense. An international experience in research is required (during or after Doctorate). The candidate must not have supported their thesis in the hiring institution and not previously worked in the host research unit.
The candidate should have experience in material elaboration by the known techniques of inorganic synthesis (hydrothermal,..). Skills in structural characterization by diffraction are required and knowledge in the preparation of porous materials will be positively considered.

Applicants with an interest in the material properties and synthesis of natural and synthetic phases with heavy toxic metals (Tl, Pb, U) and their behavior under a variety of natural and technological conditions are encouraged to apply. Experience in solid-state and hydrothermal experimental techniques, single-crystal and powder x-ray diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy are desirable.

A special issue dedicated on borates in the Zeitschrift für Kristallographie is planned for the next year. The purpose of this special issue is to provide a broad overview of the status and perspectives in the field of borates. Submissions are therefore encouraged from all areas of crystallography, chemistry, mineralogy, physics, and materials science.
Submissions can be research reports or reviews of specific aspects of borates. Submissions of papers that are tutorial in nature are strongly encouraged, but all submissions must be written in a style that is easy accessible to all crystallographers and other potential readers.
